ISG Learns Convocation 2023

Each year, ISG welcomes new and returning staff through an annual
ISG Learns Convocation held in August. This event celebrates the
beginning of the new school year with an inspiring plenary session
followed by several workshops facilitated by ISG teacher leaders and
job-alike sessions throughout the day.
Professional development events throughout the year focus on the
annual theme determined through student and staff data. The annual
theme for 2023’s ISG Learns Convocation was Compassionate Action:
Acceptance, Inclusion and Respect. The theme was rooted in ISG’s
mission and the needs of our students and staff, which were analyzed
and identified by our PD Committee.

Convocation began with a plenary delivered by Ronnie Caldwell,
Principal of American School Dhahran, that focused on positive
psychology and the behaviors that would give our students the best
chance at embodying a culture of acceptance, inclusion and respect.
To include student voice, students were interviewed on what teachers
can do to model and incorporate acceptance, inclusion and respect in
the classroom.
ISG teacher leaders facilitated 21 workshops throughout the day
with an emphasis on building student and staff capacity to increase
acceptance, inclusion and respect across the district. Workshops were
offered by ISG teachers, counselors, support staff and administrators.
Topics included positive education, positive relationships, artificial
intelligence, global languages, assessment and mindfulness.
