Compassion Conference
In June 2024, ISG hosted its first
Compassion Conference that brought
together 80 students from across the
district to share compassionate action
plans and experiences with students
and staff. This conference highlighted
the importance of converting words
into actions, which resulted in a positive
and impactful experience for all
stakeholders.
Throughout the year, students
worked closely with consultant Ivy
Yan on learning what it means to be
compassionate toward one’s self,
toward nature and toward others. This
framework inspired students to think
of innovative project ideas, some of
which included compassion trees, a
rock mural, new student handbooks,
new bird feeders, book drives, a beach
cleanup and projects related to health
and wellbeing.
Each group of students exemplified
leadership and empathetic qualities in
creating and executing their action plan,
and later sharing the outcomes with
students and staff at the conference.
